2 – Through ʿAbd al-Karim, from al-Miswar ibn Makhrama:
He related that Saʿd wanted to sell a house of his, so he said to his neighbor, “Take it for 700; I have already been offered 800 dirhams for it, but I am letting you have it because I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, ‘The neighbor has the strongest claim to his right of pre-emption.’”
In another narration, from al-Miswar, from Rafiʿ ibn Khadij: Saʿd offered me a house and said, “Take it. I have been offered more for it than you are giving, yet you have the greater right to it, for I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, ‘The neighbor has the strongest claim to his right of pre-emption.’”
In yet another narration, from al-Miswar, from Rafiʿ, the freedman of Saʿd: he said to a man—meaning Saʿd—“I will take this house for 400.” Saʿd replied, “I have been offered 800 dirhams, but I am giving it to you because of a report I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: ‘The neighbor has the strongest claim to his right of pre-emption.’”
And in one narration from Saʿd ibn Malik: he offered a house of his to his neighbor for 400, saying, “I have already been offered 800, but I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, ‘The neighbor has the strongest claim to his right of pre-emption.’”
