5 – Hammad narrated from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from ʿAʾisha (may Allah be pleased with her) concerning Allah’s words, “Allah will not call you to account for what is unintentional in your oaths” (al-Baqarah 2:225). She said: “It refers to a person’s casual remark, ‘No, by Allah,’ or ‘Yes, by Allah,’ phrases he merely tags onto his speech, without his heart intending them as a binding oath.”
