2 – Hammād narrated from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad, from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her): She wanted to purchase Barīrah in order to set her free, but Barīrah’s owners said, “We will not sell her unless you stipulate that the walāʾ (the right of inheritance and allegiance) remains with us.” I mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, “The walāʾ belongs to the one who manumits.”
