8 – Ḥammād narrated from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad, from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she emancipated Barīrah. Barīrah had a husband who was a mawla (freedman) of the family of Abū Aḥmad. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her the option; she chose herself, so he separated the two of them, even though her husband was a free man.
