17 – Muslim narrated: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out during Ramadan, heading for Makkah, and he fasted, and the people fasted along with him.”
In another report: “He left Madinah for Makkah in Ramadan. He continued to fast until they had covered part of the way, but the people complained of the hardship, so he broke his fast and did not resume fasting until he reached Makkah.”
A third version says: “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) traveled during Ramadan intending Makkah; he fasted and so did the Muslims. When they had gone some distance, some of the Muslims complained of the strain, so he called for water, broke his fast, and the Muslims broke theirs as well.”
