22 – Yazīd ibn Suhayb narrated from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Allah, exalted is He, will remove from the Fire people of faith by the intercession of Muḥammad ﷺ.”

Yazīd added, “So I asked, ‘But Allah, exalted is He, says, “and never shall they get out of the Fire” (Q 2:167).’”
Jābir replied, “Read what comes before it: ‘Indeed, those who disbelieve…’ (Q 2:161). That verse applies only to the unbelievers.”

In another wording: “A group from the people of faith will be brought out of the Fire by the intercession of Muḥammad ﷺ.” Yazīd said, “I asked, ‘Yet Allah, exalted is He, says, ‘and they will never emerge from it’ (Q 5:37).’”
Jābir answered, “Read what precedes it: ‘Indeed, those who disbelieve…’ (Q 5:36). That refers to the unbelievers.”

And in yet another narration from Yazīd he said, “I asked Jābir about intercession, and he replied, ‘Allah, exalted is He, will punish some people of faith for their sins; then He will bring them out by the intercession of Muḥammad ﷺ.’ I said, ‘How, then, do we reconcile this with Allah’s statement?’ and he related the same ḥadīth.”
