4 – Al-Haytham narrates, through Musa ibn Talha, from Ibn al-Hawtakiyya, from ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him): “A hare was presented to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He ordered his Companions to eat it, and they did so. He then said to the man who had brought it, ‘Why are you not eating from it yourself?’ The man replied, ‘I am fasting.’ He asked, ‘What kind of fast?’ He answered, ‘A voluntary fast.’ He said, ‘Then why not at least eat its eggs?’”
