110 – Hammad narrated—from Ibrahim, on the authority of more than one transmitter—that ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) gathered the Prophet’s Companions (Allah bless him and grant him peace) and asked them about the takbir in the funeral prayer. He said to them, “Look at the last funeral over which the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) pronounced the takbir.” They found that he had pronounced the takbir four times until he passed away. ʿUmar then said, “So pronounce four takbirs.”
