Musnad Abi Hanifah Riwayat al-HaskafiAbu Hanifa

80 – Hammād narrated from Ibrāhīm, from Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Jadalī, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the witr at the beginning of the night, in the middle of it, and at its end, so that the matter might be easy for the Muslims—whichever of those times they adopted would be correct. However, whoever hopes to stand in night prayer should place his witr at the end of the night, for that is better.”

In another version: Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Jadalī narrated from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir and Abū Mūsā (may Allah be pleased with them) that they said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would sometimes perform the witr at the start of the night, at its middle, and at its end, in order to give the Muslims ample latitude.”
