76 – Hammad narrated, from Ibrāhīm, from al-Aswad, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform the witr as three rakʿahs. In the first he would recite: ‘Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High’ (sūrah al-Aʿlā); in the second: ‘Say, “O you who disbelieve”’ (sūrah al-Kāfirūn); and in the third: ‘Say, “He is Allah, the One”’ (sūrah al-Ikhlāṣ).”
In another wording she said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would recite in the first rakʿah of witr al-Fātiḥah (the Opening) together with ‘Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High’; in the second al-Fātiḥah together with ‘Say, “O you who disbelieve”’; and in the third al-Fātiḥah together with ‘Say, “He is Allah, the One.’”
A further report states simply that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ “used to perform the witr as three rakʿahs.”
