47 – Concerning a sick person who loses consciousness: what should be done about his prayers when their time arrives? Someone wrote to me conveying this report: Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir related from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said, “I fell ill, and the Prophet ﷺ came to visit me, accompanied by Abū Bakr and ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them). I had fainted during my illness, and when the time for prayer came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed wuḍūʾ (ablution) and sprinkled some of its water over me. He asked, ‘How are you, Jābir?’ and then said, ‘Pray as best you can, even if it is only by making gestures.’”
