Third: His words, Most High:
“What you possess will perish, whereas what is with Allah will endure.” (1)
He thus informs us that every good thing found in this world comes to an end, while whatever is with Allah remains and never passes away. If the bliss stored with Him were to have a final limit, it would necessarily come to an end just as worldly delights do, and therefore could not be described as enduring and inexhaustible.
Fourth: His saying—in two verses—
“Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds will have a reward that is never cut off.” (2)
“Except those who believe and do righteous deeds; for them is a reward that is never cut off.” (3)
Similarly, He says:
“And indeed for you there is a reward that shall never cease.” (4)
The majority of the exegetes said: it is “neither terminated nor diminished.” (5)
They reported from Ibn ʿAbbās that he said: “It is never terminated.” (6)
And Muqātil said: “Nor is it diminished—likewise.” (7)
Again, the great body of commentators affirmed: it is “neither terminated nor diminished” ⦗10/b⦘, just as He said:
“And indeed for you there is a reward that shall never cease.” (8)
They also said: among its linguistic roots is al-manūn, for it cuts short a person’s lifespan. (9)
