Al-Radd ʿalā man qāla bi-fanāʾ al-Janna wa-al-NārIbn Taimiya

This accords with the ḥadith of Abū Saʿīd in two respects; and Muslim likewise transmits from Jābir the wording:

“The like of this world and ten times its like.” (1)

—just as in the first version of Ibn Masʿūd’s report.

In Jābir’s narration recorded in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said:

“Allah, Exalted is He, will bring some people out of the Fire and admit them into Paradise.” (2)

Another version states:

“Allah will bring a people out of the Fire by means of intercession.” (3)

Muslim also relates from Jābir that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said:

“A people will come out of the Fire, having been burned in it except for circular patches on their faces, until they enter Paradise.” (4)

Al-Bukhārī narrates from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said:

“A group will be brought out of the Fire through the intercession of Muḥammad—peace and blessings be upon him—then admitted into Paradise, and they will be called al-Jahannamiyyūn (the former Hell-dwellers).”

Al-Bukhārī also relates from Anas that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said:

“A people will emerge from the Fire after it has touched (5) them, leaving scorch marks (6); they will then enter Paradise and will be called al-Jahannamiyyūn.” (7)

(3) The same two sources as above; the wording is from Muslim, hadith no. 318. (4) Sahih Muslim – Book of Faith, hadith no. 308, Chapter “The Last of the People of Hell to Emerge,” 1:173. (5) In al-Bukhari it reads “ba‘da mafāhim minhā” (after its understandings), marked with a check; the marginal variant reads “mā yusammīhim minhā” (what names them from it), also checked. Fath al-Bari preserves al-Bukhari’s wording, since he is the primary narrator cited by the author. In al-Bukhari’s second narration: “liyaṣibanna aqwāman safḥan mina al-nār thumma yadkhuluhum Allāh al-jannah” — al-Bukhari with Fath al-Bari 13:434, hadith no. 7450. (6) That is, any remnant of the Fire — al-Nihāya 2:374. (7) The same source as above, hadith no. 6559.
