you will not have affirmed it, and if it is true, you will not have denied it.”

Al-Bukhārī also narrated from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUtbah, that Ibn ʿAbbās said: “How can you ask the People of the Book about anything when your Book, which was revealed to His Messenger, is the most recent scripture from the Most Merciful, and you read it pure and unadulterated? Your Lord has already informed you that the People of the Book altered and changed Allah’s words, wrote with their own hands, and said, ‘This is from Allah,’ to gain a paltry price thereby. Has not the knowledge that has come to you deterred you from questioning them? No, by Allah, we have never seen a single one of them asking you about what was revealed
