whatever knowledge is attained through asceticism, worship, spiritual discipline, purification, seclusion, or other means is false if it contradicts the Quran and Sunnah or sound reason. Anyone claiming affiliation with them who asserts that, through spiritual unveiling, they discover something that contradicts sound reason, or that one of them experiences something contrary to the Quran and Sunnah that places him outside obedience to the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and his commands, or that he acquires detailed knowledge of everything the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—conveyed and commanded, is, in their view, astray and a proponent of falsehood—indeed, a heretic and a hypocrite.
They never allow any path that dispenses with following the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in what he conveys and commands, let alone permit anyone to contradict his commands or his reports. We have discussed this at length elsewhere. Were this possible for anyone, he would be on a par with the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and would have no need to follow him in what he conveys and commands. Such is the condition of those of whom Allah Most High says:
“And when a sign comes to them, they say, ‘We will never believe until we are given the like of what was given to the messengers of Allah.’”
[al-An‘ām 124]
And He Most High says:
“Rather, every one of them desires to be given scriptures spread open.”
