Satan deceived them with this premise until he led them away from the clear path and plunged them into specious arguments whose embellishments they clung to, while remaining bewildered about their true nature. They neither found peace of mind in them nor accepted them with certainty.

When they saw that the Book of Allah Most High declared the contrary of what they espoused and testified against the falsehood of their beliefs, they pitted some of its verses against others. They interpreted them according to whatever occurred to their minds and seemed to them consistent with the principles they had established. They set themselves against the reports of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the Sunnah transmitted from him, and rejected them
