do not respond to that call. He likewise says of the hypocrites:
“Have you not seen those who claim to believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They wish to seek judgment from tāghūt, although they were commanded to reject it. Satan wishes to lead them far astray. {60} And when they are told, ‘Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,’ you see the hypocrites turn away from you in aversion. {61}”
[al-Nisā’ 60, 61]
He thus states that the disbelievers and hypocrites turn away from responding to the Book and the Messenger. It follows that the believers are not like this. Rather, they are as Allah Most High says:
“The only response of the believers, when they are called to Allah and His Messenger so that he may judge between them, is to say, ‘We hear and we obey.’”
[al-Nūr 51]
And He says:
“But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you judge concerning their disputes, then find within themselves no discomfort over what you have decided and submit completely. {65}”
[al-Nisā’ 65]
This is what He commanded them to do when He said:
“O you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. If you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is best and leads to the finest outcome. {59}”
[al-Nisā’ 59]
On this basis He has judged among the people of the earth, as He Most High says:
“Mankind was one community. Then Allah sent the prophets as bearers of good tidings and warners, and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge between people concerning their differences. None differed over it except those who had been given it, after clear proofs had come to them, out of mutual envy. Then Allah, by His permission, guided those who believed to the truth concerning which they had differed. Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path. {213}”
[al-Baqarah 213]
There is abundant evidence supporting this principle.
