Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

the believers are distinguished by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The teaching to which they call is the Book of Allah, and the leader whom they hold it obligatory to follow is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Faith is founded upon this, and this is the basis upon which loyalty and enmity are required. As Allah Most High says:

“Your ally is none but Allah, His Messenger, and those who believe,” up to His words, “Indeed, the party of Allah—they will be victorious.”
[al-Mā’idah 55, 56]

And He says:

“The believing men and believing women are allies of one another.”
[al-Tawbah 71]

There are other similar passages. Allah Most High also says:

“When it is said to them, ‘Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,’ they say, ‘Sufficient for us is what we found our forefathers following.’ Even though their forefathers knew nothing and were not guided? {104}”
[al-Mā’idah 104]

He likewise mentions this in al-Baqarah, al-Mā’idah, and Luqmān, stating that the disbelievers
