Rather, the aim is to show the conflict between the Jahmiyya and the Dahriyya, and the inability of either group to establish the validity of its own position, since both deny innate, self-evident principles which the messengers brought to perfection and which sound reasoning confirms. The aim is also to show that the Jahmiyya cannot answer the specious arguments of the Dahriyya on their own premises, while the Dahriyya are even less able to answer the arguments of the Jahmiyya on their own premises. Each group’s argument is invalid according to its own principles, just as it is invalid according to those of its opponent. Thus, when their arguments are invalid on both sets of premises—as they are also invalid according to sound principles—the falsity of their principles becomes apparent, together with the profound inconsistency of their positions in every respect.
