perhaps set out in full the rational arguments advanced by the various groups who deny the divine attributes. Their invalidity has already been demonstrated in numerous ways. This has shown that all the arguments they rely upon—which they call rational demonstrations and use to oppose what the Quran and hadith convey—are false, and that sound reason agrees with what the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, has conveyed and does not contradict it.
Sound reason does not conflict with revelation; rather, it agrees with it, supports it, and confirms it. It suffices for us to demonstrate the invalidity of the arguments raised against it. To present, in addition, the arguments of rational inquiry that agree with it is even more compelling and better. It has become clear that innate, self-evident reason is in harmony with revelation, and that rational inquiry likewise agrees with it. Those who opposed it therefore contradicted both revelation and reason, becoming akin to those who said:
“If only we had listened or reasoned, we would not be among the companions of the Blaze.” (10) [al-Mulk 10]
