Yet it is known beyond doubt in the religion of Muslims, Jews and Christians that Pharaoh will enter the Fire. The Quran abounds in evidence for this: some forty passages establish his punishment in this world and the Hereafter. His words also indicate this:
“So he led them into the Fire.” [Hūd 98]
Moreover, He says:
“He will lead his people on the Day of Resurrection, and so lead them into it.” [Hūd 98]
Since he leads them, they will not enter until he has entered before them. Even supposing that this verse did not indicate this, other verses do.
Another passage that confused them was His saying:
“Bring in Pharaoh’s household.” [Ghāfir 46]
They said, “Pharaoh himself is not part of Pharaoh’s household.” This confusion stems from their ignorance of the Arabic language, not from any lack of precision in the verses of Allah Most High. Rather, He has made them precise. The expression “the household of so-and-so” includes the man himself and those connected with him, as in His words, Most High:
“Indeed, Allah chose Adam and Noah, the household of Abraham and the household of Imrān above all people (33).” [Āl Imrān 33]
And His words, Most High:
“When the messengers came to the household of Lot (61), he said, ‘You are people unknown to me’ (62).” [al-Hijr 61–62]
And His words, Most High:
“Except the household of Lot, whom We saved before dawn (34), as a favour from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks (35).” [al-Qamar 34–35]
And His words:
