Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

and another group, confused about the matter, interpreted the Kursī as knowledge, although this meaning is entirely unknown in the language. Allah, glorified and exalted be He, encompasses everything in knowledge; His knowledge is not confined to the heavens and the earth. The purpose is to demonstrate the greatness of the Lord, glorified be He. He knows all things and knows what has been and what will be. Thus, restricting His knowledge to the heavens and the earth conveys no praise, nor does this have any parallel in the Quran: the Lord never states that His knowledge is confined to them.

Although this interpretation is transmitted by Jaʿfar ibn Abī Wahshiyyah, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, what is reliably established from Ibn ʿAbbās through al-Thawrī, from Muslim al-Butayn, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, is to the contrary.
