[al-Inshiqāq: 1–2]
and His words:
“When the heaven breaks apart (1)” [al-Infitār: 1]
and His words:
“Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will surely come to pass (7); none can avert it (8).” [al-Tūr: 7–8]
and His words:
“On the Day when the heaven will sway violently (9), and the mountains will move away (10).” [al-Tūr: 9–10]
He also says:
“When the heaven splits open and becomes rose-red like oil (37).” [al-Rahmān: 37]
And the Most High says:
“On the Day when the heaven will be like molten metal (8), and the mountains will be like wool (9).” [al-Maʿārij: 8–9]
And the Most High says:
“On the Day when the heaven splits open with clouds and the angels are sent down in successive descent (25). True sovereignty that Day will belong to the Most Merciful, and it will be a difficult Day for the disbelievers (26).” [al-Furqān: 25–26]
And the Most High says:
“When the Trumpet is blown with a single blast (13), and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and crushed with a single crushing (14), then on that Day the Inevitable Event will occur (15). The heaven will split open, for that Day it will be frail (16). The angels will be at its edges, and eight will bear the Throne of your Lord above them that Day (17). That Day you will be presented, and none of your secrets will remain hidden (18).” [al-Hāqqah: 13–18]
In these verses, He tells us that He will re-create the creation which He first brought into being and created in six days, and will bring about the Resurrection. He has told us that He created it from matter and over a period of time, and that, when He re-creates it, He does not reduce it to nothing; rather, He transforms it into other matter, also over a period of time.
As for the “Throne,” it was not included among the things He created in the six days, nor among those He will split and cleave apart. Rather, the well-known hadiths indicate, as does the Quran, that the Throne will endure. It is established in the Sahīh that the roof of the Garden of Eden is the Throne of the Most Merciful. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“When you ask Allah for Paradise, ask Him for al-Firdaws, for it is the highest and most central part of Paradise, and its roof is the Throne of the Most Merciful.”
And the Most High says, when speaking of the Resurrection:
“They have not appraised Allah with true
