al-Qādī Abū Bakr and others on this matter. The purpose here is to understand what the term ta’wīl (interpretation) signifies in the Quran and in the language in which the Quran was revealed. Once this is understood, if one says that only Allah knows the ta’wīl, meaning that He alone knows the extent and nature of the promised reward and punishment, and He alone knows when they will come, then this is true. Allah Most High says:
“No soul knows what delights of the eyes are kept hidden for them.”
[Al-Sajdah 17]
In an authentic hadith, Allah Most High says:
“I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever imagined.”
