Qatādah said concerning “Are they waiting for anything but its fulfillment?”: “That is, its ultimate outcome.” It is also reported from him: “Its fulfillment is its recompense.”

‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, in a report he narrated from Asbagh ibn al-Faraj, said concerning “On the Day its fulfillment comes”: “Its realization.” He then recited Allah’s words:

“This is the fulfillment of my dream of long ago.” [Yūsuf 100]

He said: “This is its realization.” He also recited:

“And no one knows its fulfillment except Allah.” [Āl ‘Imrān 7]
