Quranic exegesis it has another meaning, and in the terminology of many later scholars it has yet another. These differing conventions and usages have created ambiguity, leading many people to misunderstand the Quran and other texts.

These are the three meanings found in people’s usage. Some mention two of them, while others mention all three in separate places. Indeed, many Quranic commentators mention the first two meanings at the beginning of their commentaries, then discuss the third elsewhere, as Abū al-Faraj ibn al-Jawzī does in his commentary.
