and others. Concerning his words, “the Book of Allah,” a weak hadith has been reported. He said: “It is narrated from ʿAlī, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
‘Hold fast to the Book of Allah. It contains accounts of what came before you, news of what will come after you, and judgment on matters between you. It is decisive, not a jest. Allah Most High will shatter any tyrant who abandons it, and Allah will lead astray whoever seeks guidance elsewhere. It is Allah’s firm rope, the wise Reminder, and the straight path. It keeps desires from straying; scholars never have their fill of it; it does not wear out through repeated recitation; and its wonders never cease. Whoever speaks by it speaks the truth; whoever judges by it judges justly; whoever argues by it prevails; and whoever calls to it after me calls to guidance and to a straight path.’”
