Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

Thus, if someone says, “There can be no incompatibility or contrariety between an accident and a body,” and means that this cannot occur, his claim contradicts sensory experience. Indeed, the clearest example is a person’s clothing, which protects him from heat and cold, both of which are accidents. Allah Most High says:

“And He has made for you garments to protect you from the heat, and garments to protect you in battle.”
[al-Nahl 81]

Protection from heat means preventing and repelling it. If, however, he means that a body, insofar as it is a body, does not prevent an accident from existing, this is true. Yet denying prevention insofar as it is a body does not entail the absence of prevention insofar as it is a body, especially since we have explained that bodies are not alike.
