‘Uthmān ibn Sa‘īd al-Dārimī said: Mūsā ibn Ismā‘īl Abū Salamah narrated to us: Hammād—that is, Ibn Salamah—narrated to us: Abū ‘Imrān al-Jawnī informed us, on the authority of Zurārah ibn Awfā, that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) asked Gabriel, “Have you seen your Lord?” Gabriel shuddered and said, “O Muhammad, between Him and me are seventy veils of light. Were I to approach the nearest of them, I would be burned.”
