his statement:
“Further removed from reason and revelation is the assertion of someone who says, ‘He is neither within the world nor outside it,’ thus negating Him equally in both respects. For if he were told, ‘Describe Him as nonexistent,’ he could say no more than this. He explicitly rejects Allah’s reports and makes assertions that neither revelation nor reason permits, claiming that this is pure monotheism. In their view, pure negation is pure affirmation, yet they consider themselves practitioners of logical reasoning.”
He said:
“If they say, ‘This is an explicit declaration on your part that places are devoid of Him and that He is exclusively upon the Throne,’ the reply is: ‘If you mean that places lie beyond His governance and His knowledge of them, then no. But if you mean that He has not risen over them as He has risen over the Throne, then we do not shrink from saying, “Allah rose over the Throne,” whereas we do shrink from saying, “He rose over the earth, rose over the wall, or settled in the front part of the house.”’”
