Likewise, these same three positions apply to whether His creation of Adam with His two hands, His holding the heavens and the earth, and similar acts entail contact and adjacency. As for the early generations and the renowned imams of the Sunnah, I am not aware of any disagreement among them concerning this. Rather, they affirm these matters as conveyed in the texts. This, however, will be discussed in its proper place.

An example is the statement of Imam ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd al-Dārimī in his refutation of al-Marīsī. He said: “Then the opponent set about addressing those attributes which he had collected
