al-Hasan said: “Al-Samad is the One from whom nothing comes forth.”

He also narrated through Hushaym, who said: “Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid informed us, from al-Shaʿbī, who said: ‘I was informed that He is the One who neither eats nor drinks.’” And through Saʿīd, from Qatādah, from al-Hasan, who said: “Al-Samad is the One who remains after His creation.”

He said: “Abū Sulaymān—meaning al-Khattābī—said, according to what I was told of him: ‘Al-Samad is the Master to whom people turn in their affairs
