Then al-Bayhaqī related the report of al-Aʿmash from Shaqīq concerning the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, “al-Samad”: “He is the Master whose sovereignty has reached its utmost perfection.”
He also narrated from al-Hākim, from al-Asamm, from al-Saghānī, who said: “Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us: Salamah ibn Sābūr narrated to us, from ʿAtiyyah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: ‘Al-Samad is He who has no hollow interior.’”
Al-Bayhaqī said: “We have transmitted this interpretation from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab, Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, Mujāhid, al-Hasan, al-Suddī, al-Dahhāk, and others. It was also narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buraydah, from his father, though its narrator was uncertain whether it was traced back to the Prophet.”
