pay another visit to the mosque of our forefathers Abraham and Ishmael.”

He related: When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) saw him, he said, “Are you 'Abd Allāh ibn Salām?” I replied, “Yes.” I then said, “Then describe your Lord to us.” He said:

“Say: ‘He is Allah, the One. (1)
Allah, the Eternal Refuge. (2)
He neither begets nor is born, (3)
and there is none comparable to Him.’ (4)”
[al-Ikhlās 1–4]

He said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) recited it to us.

I say: Ibn Salām did not see the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in Mecca; he saw him only in Medina. He said, “When I saw him, I knew that his face was not that of a liar.”
