al-Rabī' ibn Anas, from Abū al-'Āliyah, from Ubayy ibn Abī Ka'b, who reported that the polytheists said to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, “Tell us your Lord’s lineage.” So Allah Most High revealed:
“Say: He is Allah, the One (1), Allah, the Eternal Refuge (2). He neither begets nor is begotten (3), and none is comparable to Him (4).” [al-Ikhlās 1-4]
He said: “The Eternal Refuge is He who neither begets nor is begotten, nor is any offspring born to Him. For nothing begets unless it is itself born, and nothing is born but it will die. Nothing dies without leaving an inheritance, whereas Allah neither dies nor leaves an inheritance.”
“And none is comparable to Him”—he said: “He has no likeness, counterpart, or equal.”
