And third, by this you impugned Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—for conveying this in confirmation of Jesus.” Thus he silenced Jahm.
He said: Jahm’s statement, “Allah is not to be described as having inward thought,” means that Allah had no knowledge within Himself of any creatures before they and their deeds came into existence. This is a fundamental basis for denying Allah’s Self and His foreknowledge. Allah’s words refute him on this point:
“You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself.”
[al-Mā’idah 116]
Thus the Messiah stated that Allah has foreknowledge within Himself, which Allah knows but the Messiah does not. Allah also says:
“And I have chosen you for Myself.” (41)
[Tā Hā 41]
“Your Lord has prescribed mercy for Himself.”
[al-Anʿām 54]
“And Allah warns you of Himself.”
[Āl ʿImrān 28-30]
The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:
“When Allah brought creation into being, He wrote in His Book with His own hand, binding Himself: ‘Indeed, My mercy prevails over My wrath.’”
