“Chapter Three: The Term ‘Self’
They cite the Quran and the transmitted reports as evidence for using this term. As for the Quran, Allah Most High says concerning Moses, peace be upon him:
‘And I have chosen you for Myself.’ (41)
[Tā Hā 41]
He also says, relating the words of Jesus, peace be upon him:
‘You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself.’
[al-Mā’idah 116]
He, the Exalted, says, describing those who are to be rewarded:
‘Your Lord has prescribed mercy for Himself.’
[al-An‘ām 54]
And He, the Exalted, says, warning the disobedient:
‘Allah warns you of Himself.’
[Āl ‘Imrān 28–30]
As for the reports, they are numerous. The first report is what Abū Sālih narrated from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said:
‘Allah Most High says: “I am with My servant when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me within himself, I remember him within Myself; and if he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him in a better gathering.”’
