Thus, they called every individual of any species a “person.” They even call a particular instance of blackness or whiteness a “person” among the “persons” of its species. They say that the species of the Necessary Existent is confined to His “person,” just as they say the same of the sun and everything that has no counterpart. This resembles the way they and the speculative theologians extended the term “substance” to a meaning broader than its linguistic sense. The same applies to “body” and other terms.

Yet understanding languages and the customary usage in which each speaker communicates is among the most important matters that should
