Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

—meaning Ahmad’s son (may Allah have mercy on him)—‘'Ubayd Allāh al-Qawārīrī said that no hadith is more forceful against the Jahmiyyah than this one: “No person loves praise more than Allah.”’”

Al-Qādī said: “It may also be held that this term should not be applied to Him, since the wording of the report does not explicitly establish this. Its meaning is, ‘No one has greater protective jealousy than Allah,’ as it has been transmitted with this wording in another version. Thus, the word ‘person’ is used in place of ‘anyone,’ and this would be an exception involving something of a different genus and kind, as in the words of Allah Most High:

‘They have no knowledge of it, but only follow conjecture.’ [al-Nisā’ 157]

Conjecture is not a kind of knowledge.”

As for interpreting ‘person’—if its application to Him is established—as a particular essence
