“No person has greater protective jealousy than Allah.”
The term “person” also occurs in another hadith more authentic than this one: the hadith of Abū Razīn al-'Uqaylī, which we cited earlier among the hadiths concerning His coming on the Day of Resurrection—glorified and exalted is He. In it, the Prophet said:
“He is indeed more able to gather you than water is to gather the earth’s vegetation. You will emerge from the graves, from the places where you died, and you will look at Him and He will look at you.”
Abū Razīn said: “I asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how can that be, when He is one person and we fill the earth, yet we look at Him and He looks at us?’ He replied, ‘I will give you a comparable example from Allah’s blessings. The sun and the moon are a small sign from Him: you all see them at the same time, and they see you, without any hindrance to your seeing them. By the life of your God, He is indeed more able to see you and to be seen by you than they are to see you and to be seen by you.’
“I asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what will our Lord do with us when we meet Him?’ He replied, ‘You will be presented before Him, with your features plainly visible to Him.’” He then related the remainder of the hadith.
The hadith scholars among Ahmad’s followers and others have disagreed over applying the term “person” to Him. Al-Qādī Abū Ya'lā said: “There is nothing to preclude applying it to Him, for doing so does not liken His attributes to those of creation
