is the truth upheld by the great majority of those who affirm the divine attributes, though some Jahmīs dispute it. Yet both those who deny and those who affirm err in this matter, as we shall explain, if Allah Most High wills. For example, some who deny regard the vision as beliefs that do not correspond to reality and as false imaginings. It is comparable to actual vision with the eye, which exists in external reality.
As for his second explanation:
“What is meant by ‘form’ may be a quality. Since Allah Most High singled him out for greater honor and favor at the time he saw Him, it would be correct in ordinary usage to say, ‘I saw Him in the most beautiful form,’ just as one says, ‘This event unfolded in the best form and the most beautiful manner.’”
The reply is that this is false for several reasons. First, the wording of the hadith cited earlier states that he saw his Lord in a dream in the most beautiful form, as a young man with abundant hair.
