Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

from Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from Zayd ibn Sallām, from Abū Sallām, from ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿĀʾish al-Hadramī, who related to him from Mālik ibn Yukhāmir al-Saksakī, from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, who said:

‘One morning, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was delayed in coming to us for the dawn prayer, until we could almost see the sun’s disk. He then came out quickly, and the call to commence the prayer was made. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) led the prayer, keeping it brief. When he had given the closing salutation, he called out to us: “Remain in your rows as you are.” Then he turned towards us and said: “I shall tell you what kept me from you this morning. I rose during the night, performed ablution, and prayed as much as had been decreed for me. I grew drowsy during my prayer until I fell into a deep sleep. Then I saw my Lord—blessed and exalted is He—in the most beautiful
