Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

those who are with your Lord are not too proud to worship Him; they glorify Him and prostrate before Him. (206)” [al-A'rāf: 206]

The Most High says:

“But if they are arrogant, those who are with your Lord glorify Him night and day, and never grow weary. (38)” [Fussilat: 38]

The Most High says:

“In a seat of truth, with an All-Powerful Sovereign. (55)” [al-Qamar: 55]

The Most High says:

“Indeed, it is in the Mother of the Book with Us, exalted and full of wisdom. (4)” [al-Zukhruf: 4]

The Most High says:

“Indeed, you receive the Quran from One who is All-Wise, All-Knowing. (6)” [al-Naml: 6]

The Most High says:

“Alif Lām Rā. A Book whose verses have been perfected, then set out in detail, from One who is All-Wise, All-Aware. (1)” [Hūd: 1]

The Most High says:

“With Him are the keys to the unseen; none knows them but He.” [al-An'ām: 59]

The Most High says:

“Indeed, Allah has knowledge of the Hour.” [Luqmān: 34]

The word ma' (“with”) is among the adverbial expressions, and Allah’s name has been joined to it in such passages as Allah has willed. Joining His name to an adverbial expression is more emphatic than joining an adverbial expression to His name. The Most High says:

“They fear their Lord, who is above them.” [al-Nahl: 50]

He also says:

“To Him ascends good speech.” [Fātir: 10]

And He says:

“The angels and the Spirit ascend to Him.” [al-Ma'ārij: 4]

Anyone whose speech consists of such statements and the like ought, if Allah wills to show him mercy, to repent of it. As Abū al-Ma'ālī said when he was dying:

“I have plunged into the vast ocean, abandoned the people of Islam and their sciences, and ventured into what they forbade me. Now, if my Lord does not come to my aid with His mercy, woe to Ibn al-Juwaynī! Here I am, dying upon my mother’s creed.”

Another version reads: “upon
