Wakīʿ, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Abī Humayd, from Abū al-Mulayh, from Abū Hurayrah, who reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Someone came to me in the most beautiful form and said, ‘O Muhammad, do you know what the Highest Assembly will dispute about on the Day of Resurrection?’ I replied, ‘No.’ He placed his hand between my shoulders until I felt its coolness between my breasts. I then knew everything he asked me about. The reply was, ‘Yes; they dispute about the deeds that raise one’s rank and those that expiate sins.’ He asked, ‘And what are the deeds that raise one’s rank?’ I replied, ‘Performing ablution thoroughly on cold mornings, walking to the Friday prayers, and waiting for the next prayer after each prayer—that is steadfast vigilance in worship. The deeds that expiate sins are feeding people, spreading the greeting of peace, and praying at night while people sleep.’”
