Abū Shajarah, from Ibn ʿUmar, who reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was late in joining his Companions for the dawn prayer, until the sun’s upper rim seemed about to rise. He then came out to them and led the dawn prayer. When he finished, he said, “Remain seated.” Then he turned to them and asked, “Do you know what kept me from you?” They replied, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “I prayed in my place of prayer for as long as Allah had decreed for me. Then I was overcome by sleep, and my Lord came to me in the most beautiful form.”
