ʿUthmān, among the hadiths concerning the divine attributes that he collected, through his chain of transmission from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said, ‘Abraham was granted intimate friendship with Allah, Moses was spoken to by Him, and Muhammad was granted the vision of Him—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him and upon them all.’”
I say: This is authentically reported from Ibn ʿAbbās—may Allah be pleased with them both—as noted above.
He said: Abū Hafs ibn Shāhīn also narrated in his Sunan, through his chain of transmission from al-Dahhāk ibn Muzāhim, from Ibn ʿAbbās—may Allah be pleased with them both—that the Prophet saw Allah with his heart twice. This is what Ahmad followed and cited as evidence from Ibn ʿAbbās, as noted above.
