Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

He said:

“Nor does this report make it clear that, by ‘a vision with the eyes,’ Ibn ʿAbbās meant that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw his Lord with his own eyes. As for the reports transmitted by Qatāda and al-Hakam ibn Abān from ʿIkrima, from Ibn ʿAbbās, and the report transmitted by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Salama from Ibn ʿAbbās, they clearly and plainly show that Ibn ʿAbbās affirmed that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw his Lord.”

This refers to the hadith transmitted by Qatāda from ʿIkrima, from Ibn ʿAbbās:

“Are you surprised that Abraham should be granted intimate friendship, Moses be spoken to directly, and Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, be granted vision?”
