Ahmad about a hadith whose chain includes ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn ‘Ā’ish, who narrated from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: ‘I saw my Lord in the most beautiful form.’ He replied, ‘There is inconsistency in its chain of transmission, for Ma‘mar narrated it from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilābah, from Ibn ‘Abbās, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Mu‘ādh ibn Hishām narrated it from his father, from Qatādah, from Abū Qilābah, from Khālid ibn al-Lajlāj, from Ibn ‘Ā’ish, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Hammād ibn Salamah narrated it from Qatādah, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbās, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Yūsuf ibn ‘Atiyyah narrated it from Qatādah, from Anas, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
