‘Ā’ish did not hear this account from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace; rather, he related it from one of the Prophet’s Companions. Nor do I think he heard it from that Companion either, for Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr related it from Zayd ibn Sallām, from ‘Abd al-Rahmān al-Hadramī, from Mālik ibn Yukhāmir, from Mu‘ādh.

He also said: Yazīd ibn Jābir reported from Khālid ibn al-Lajlāj, from ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn ‘Ā’ish, from one of the Companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
