Bayān Talbīs al-JahmiyyaIbn Taimiya

and Ibn Khuzaymah transmitted it through several routes with “light” in the accusative. Ibn Khuzaymah said:

“The report of Abū Dharr may mean, ‘I saw light.’ If the words ‘How could I see Him?’ in Abū Dharr’s report through Yazīd ibn Ibrāhīm al-Tustarī are understood as denying that he saw Him, then the report means that he denied seeing the Lord. For it is established that Abū Dharr reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw his Lord with his heart.

“Ahmad ibn Manīʿ narrated to us on more than one occasion, saying: Hushaym narrated to us: Mansūr—that is, Ibn Zādhān—informed us, from al-Hakam ibn Yazīd al-Rishk, from Abū Dharr, concerning His words:

‘And he certainly saw Him another time’ (13) [al-Najm 13].

“He said, ‘He saw Him with his heart,’ meaning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Abū Hāshim narrated to us
